Clinical Lab Scientist - Per Diem
Join UCSF Health as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the Transfusion Service. The role involves performing test procedures, reporting results (manually and automated), operating laboratory instrumentation, troubleshooting equipment, and following quality control procedures in a high‑volume setting.
Responsibilities
Perform test procedures in the Transfusion Service.
Report test results both manually and via automated systems.
Operate laboratory instrumentation and equipment to generate accurate results.
Troubleshoot errant laboratory instrumentation and equipment as needed.
Follow established quality control procedures and participate in all associated tasks within the section.
Maintain competency in a high‑volume laboratory environment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree.
A valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or a limited license in Immunohematology.
Maintain an active license and comply with the Clinical Lab CLS licensure policy.
Recent experience performing clinical laboratory testing in the Transfusion Service.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer two years’ Blood Bank or Transfusion Service experience in a high‑volume lab within the past five years, including (but not limited to):
Selection and crossmatch of blood for sensitized or problem recipients.
Antibody identification and titers.
Serologic follow‑up of transfusion reactions.
Blood Bank quality control procedures.
Issues associated with transfusion of the neonate.
Use of hospital and laboratory information (computer) systems.
Experience performing testing on an automated platform.
License/Certification
California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license.
