Program Director of Overnight Sports Camp
Academy Camps is an overnight sports‑specific sleepaway camp experience that takes place on the campus of Suffield Academy (CT). We are seeking an experienced Program Director to join our camp leadership team and coaching staff.
Who We Are Academy Camps offers 1‑week sessions for boys and girls aged 10‑15 who enjoy baseball, basketball, football, soccer, squash, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. Campers select one of our 8 “Academy Sports” and receive two intensive training sessions per day with our high‑performance coaching staff. Our program blends Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership pillars with traditional sleepaway camp activities, creating a balanced and engaging experience.
Position As a member of the AC Leadership Team, the Program Director plans and executes a daily program that is engaging, well‑coordinated, and aligned with Academy Camps’ values. The role partners with a Program Operations Assistant to deliver high‑quality programming, electives, evening activities, Bridge Weekends, special events, and logistical operations.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Program Management – Own the daily camp program, ensuring seamless execution of sports sessions, traditional camp activities, and the core pillars of Performance, Wellness, Mindset, and Leadership.
Manage Elective Program – Lead the implementation of diverse electives that enhance camper engagement and personal growth.
Oversee Evening Program – Plan and execute evening activities that balance fun, team‑building, and reflection.
Lead AC Cup – Organize and manage the flagship AC Cup competition, fostering teamwork and camp spirit.
Manage Special Events – Plan and oversee camp‑wide celebrations, dorm‑specific birthday parties, and other special events.
Bridge Weekend Program Execution – Provide engaging, varied activities for multi‑session campers during Bridge Weekends.
Supply & Inventory Management – Maintain camp supplies and inventory, coordinate replenishment, and ensure efficient use of resources.
Your Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Bachelor’s degree (or professional equivalent) + 3‑5 years of related professional experience.
Experience attending and working at summer camp; sports camp experience preferred.
Experience with programming that reflects a youth camp population.
Experience working with youth in sports or educational programs.
Excellent relationship building skills—quick to connect, build trust, and rapport.
A goal‑oriented coach, motivated to help staff and athletes achieve their goals.
A creative problem solver with an empathetic approach to customer service and team management.
A growth mindset, open to feedback and continuous learning.
Expectations, Compensation, And Benefits
Available on‑site for the full summer session: June 18 – August 8, including staff pre‑season training.
Available starting May 1 to support pre‑camp Leadership Team activities (5‑10 hrs/wk) covering onboarding, welcome calls, and training.
Competitive compensation of $7,000‑$10,000, including room and board. Travel stipend provided for relocation.
Reside on campus with room and board included. Campus offers state‑of‑the‑art athletic facilities.
Option to increase compensation through a Camper Referral Program: $250 referral bonus per enrolled camper.
