Job Description

The Shop Service Technician will repair forklifts and various other equipment sold and serviced by W.D. Matthews Machinery Co. at our onsite shop. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing gas, diesel, propane, electric material handling equipment, aerial lifts, and manlifts. The technician reports directly to the Field Service Manager, working as part of a technician team. Candidates should have a mechanical background of at least two years, experience with forklift maintenance, general computer proficiency, and vocational training in automotive, equipment, or hydraulics is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and inspect material handling and manlift equipment.
• Keep and maintain records according to company practice for all maintenance activities and administrative actions.
• Respond to and resolve customer repair requests and complaints.
• Order and track parts required for repair jobs.
• Occasional fabrication when necessary.
• Clean and wash equipment.
• Follow safety procedures, including isolation of power sources and stored energy.
• Keep a clean and organized workspace.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience and Skill Requirements

• At least two years of mechanical repair or comparable service experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with corrective and preventive forklift maintenance preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of maintenance requirements for various equipment.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with staff and customers, establishing effective relationships.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to adapt to changes quickly, switching tasks or jobs with little or no notice.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills.

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Vocational Tech classes or degree focused on automotive, equipment, or hydraulics preferred.
