Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Property Accountant to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial statements for assigned properties in accordance with GAAP. This role requires coordination with internal and external parties, including lending institutions, to distribute financial information efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in GL accrual accounting, preferably within the commercial property sector.
Responsibilities
Prepare and post all month‑end journal entries to reflect actual financial results.
Coordinate the distribution of financial information to necessary parties.
Ensure compliance with SOX directed internal controls through appropriate reviews.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and documents for month‑end financial reviews.
Assist with audit requests and provide necessary documentation.
Prepare straight‑line rent calculations, acquisition journal entries, and lender escrow reimbursements.
Update budget information as requested.
Identify and implement more effective and efficient ways of performing responsibilities.
Perform ad‑hoc analysis and assist with additional audit requests.
Essential Skills
3–5+ years of GL accrual accounting experience, preferably with property accounting.
Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
Eagerness to learn and adapt to new accounting processes.
Experience with real‑estate accounting and property‑management software such as Yardi or MRI.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Experience working with leases and ERP systems.
Experience in a public company or REIT environment.
Work Environment This position operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, fully on‑site while on contract. Once permanent, there is an option for one remote day per week. The role requires on‑site presence due to the public company status and the need for secure access to sensitive financial data.
Job Type & Location Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and Benefits Pay range: $26.44 – $36.06 / hr.
