Policy Communications Associate – United Nations University – New York, New York
Overview:
The United Nations University Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) is seeking a Policy Communications Associate to support the Centre’s communication efforts in New York. The role reports to the Head of Communications and will work across social media, event coordination, audio‑visual production, and written communications to amplify UNU‑CPR research and policy solutions.
Responsibilities
Publication processes:
Edit knowledge products to align with UN editorial guidelines; provide basic layouts for briefs, brochures, and other products using Canva, InDesign or similar; maintain the UNU information repository.
Digital communications:
Write engaging social media posts across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and X; explore new techniques to expand reach; publish content on the CPR website; produce and disseminate CPR newsletters and research updates.
Events coordination:
Plan and organize CPR events including invitations, branding and logistics; provide communication support and promote events online and on social media; capture discussions via blogs and audio‑visual products.
Audio‑visual products:
Produce and edit short videos for social media; record, edit and disseminate the CPR podcast “Multilateralism UNpacked”; explore new ideas to develop audio‑visual products.
Communications strategy:
Support communication strategies tailored to CPR’s core audiences; monitor impact and reach; maintain a calendar of UN policy processes and events.
Perform Other Duties As Assigned By Supervisor.
Key Performance Indicators
Timely delivery of high‑quality knowledge products and online/audio‑visual content.
Measurable increase in outreach and engagement with core audiences.
Regular and accurate maintenance of publication repository, planning documents and other resources.
Attention to detail in writing and editing.
Position UNU‑CPR as a reliable, trustworthy partner to research partners, governments, donors and civil society.

Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, development, international relations or other relevant subject.
Experience:
At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in communications or journalism; knowledge of international relations, UN system; experience in digital communications, audio‑visual content, social media, media relations and publication processes; experience with web content management systems (Drupal), design platforms, event communications support. Desired: sound political judgement, knowledge of the UN system and UN policy processes.
Language:
Excellent drafting skills and fluency in English; knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset.
Remuneration The successful candidate will be employed under a PSA contract. UNU offers an attractive compensation package including an annual net salary in the range of USD 70,000 – USD 75,139, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and a health insurance scheme.
Duration of contract The initial contract is 12 months. It may be renewed subject to performance, with a combined maximum duration of six (6) years. Mandatory retirement age for PSA holders is 65 years.
Starting date Early January 2026.
