Director of Human Resources at North Coast Media, LLC We are seeking a dynamic and resourceful
Human Resources Manager
to lead the HR function at our growing media publishing company. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and execution of HR strategies, policies, and programs that support our creative and diverse workforce. You will play a critical role in fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and engagement, while ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations and employment laws.
Key Responsibilities:
Talent Acquisition & Recruitment:
Lead the recruitment efforts for editorial, design, marketing, sales and other publishing-related positions. Collaborate with department heads to identify staffing needs and create job descriptions that attract top talent.
Onboarding & Integration:
Manage the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring smooth integration into the company and alignment with our company culture.
Employee Engagement & Culture:
Build and nurture a creative and inclusive workplace environment where employees are encouraged to share ideas and contribute to company success. Foster open communication, implement employee feedback programs, and promote a positive company culture.
Performance Management:
Drive the performance review process, assist managers in setting goals, and provide coaching on performance issues. Develop strategies for employee development and growth.
Employee Relations:
Act as the point of contact for employee concerns, helping to resolve conflicts and ensuring fair and equitable treatment of all staff.
Compensation & Benefits:
Oversee compensation reviews and benefits administration, ensuring competitive and market‑aligned offerings.
Compliance & Legal:
Stay up to date with labor laws and industry regulations, ensuring company policies adhere to legal standards. Manage compliance with employment laws related to publishing and media companies.
Training & Development:
Identify and implement professional development programs to support employee skill‑building, especially in areas related to publishing, digital media, and creativity.
HR Analytics & Reporting:
Collect and analyze HR metrics to track employee engagement, turnover, and other key data to support strategic decision‑making.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
5+ years of experience in Human Resources, with at least 2 years in management or leadership role, preferably in the media, publishing, or creative industries.
Strong knowledge of HR best practices, talent management, and employment laws specific to the publishing and media sectors.
Experience with HRIS systems and other HR technologies. Familiarity with tools used in the creative and publishing industries is a plus.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work with a diverse team of creative professionals.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and empathy.
Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred.
