Maternal Child Adolescent Virology Research Laboratory at USC Pediatrics is seeking a Research Laboratory Technician I. The position reports to the Associate Professor of Research Pediatrics and works closely with the Research Laboratory Technician II, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
Essential Job Duties
Preparing experimental materials using laboratory protocols and safety guidelines
Handling and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
Setting up and operating standard and complex laboratory equipment
Maintaining accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments
Performing experimental analysis and interpretations
Stocking and maintaining laboratory supplies, including monitoring inventory levels and orders
Maintaining laboratory environment in orderly and operable conditions
Performing laboratory procedures using proper bloodborne pathogen safety under the direction of the USC Safety office, the laboratory director, and laboratory supervisor
Maintaining biorepository to include: electronic system, alarm system, liquid nitrogen tanks, and ultra‑low freezers
Participating in rotating call to cover maternal deliveries, clinical study participation, and emergency biorepository maintenance approximately 50% of after‑hours including weekends and holidays
Follows established USC and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan
Required Qualifications
High school laboratory experience
Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
Practices a high level of integrity and honesty
A cooperative and team‑oriented attitude
Preferred Qualifications
B.S. degree
Specialized technical training in laboratory skills
Location: USC Health Science Campus, 1333 San Pablo St, BMT B12, Los Angeles, CA 90033. This is a fully on‑site position.
Work hours: 37.5 hours per week. Employees will participate in on‑call schedule to cover maternal deliveries, clinical study participation, and biorepository maintenance approximately 50% of after‑hours, including weekends and University holidays.
Hourly rate range: $21.61 – $27.76 per hour, dependent on experience and qualifications.
