American Cruise Lines is seeking a Shoreside Fleet Safety and Security Manager to work in our Guilford, CT office, supporting our growing cruise ship fleet that sails along rivers and coastal waterways of the East Coast, Pacific Northwest, Columbia-Snake Rivers, and Mississippi-Ohio-Cumberland Rivers. The ideal candidate will have experience in coastal/river ship operations, Coast Guard safety and security regulations, strong data entry skills, and excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building abilities.
The Manager reports to the VP of Marine Operations and supervises a Safety Coordinator and a Security Video System Technician. They oversee and execute fleet safety and security practices, ensuring our guests, crews, and ships operate safely across an expansive operating area from Alaska to Florida.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily fleet execution and documentation of shipboard safety and security programs.
Implement and manage fleet security programs and practices to meet regulatory and industry best‑practice standards.
Develop and update Vessel Security Plans, Vessel Declarations of Security, and onboard security procedures.
Introduce risk‑reduction and incident‑prevention practices within vessel procedures.
Conduct preliminary incident assessments, identify key facts and potential causes, and oversee required incident reporting to regulatory agencies.
Track approved follow‑on actions derived from incident assessments.
Chair cross‑department fleet safety group to assess procedures, incidents, and actions, building teamwork across Marine, Engineering, and Hotel departments.
Communicate continuously and travel regularly to oversee the execution of safety and security programs across the fleet, achieving year‑over‑year risk reduction.
Complete routine safety and security reporting to federal agencies and produce quarterly updates on status, outlook, and execution plans.
Perform monthly audits of at least 25% of fleet safety and security performance and compliance.
Qualifications
Maritime experience in operations, logistics, dispatching, or maintenance support.
Preferred 100T Captain or Mate License (near coastal or inland).
Team‑building experience, effective communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Proven multi‑tasking and prioritization abilities for project execution.
Responsibility and discretion in handling sensitive personnel and security information.
Experience as shipboard Deck and/or Engineering Officer.
Experience executing and/or supervising shipboard security and safety programs.
Desired Coast Guard experience in executing and/or managing security and safety programs.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, documents, and calendars.
Work Location, Routine Hours and Travel
Daily in‑person work at our Guilford, CT office.
Periodic travel (7‑10 days per month) to company ships nationwide and regulatory meetings.
