DEFINITION & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The salary range indicated is the minimum and maximum for the position. Appointment can be made above the minimum depending upon qualifications, but is anticipated to be between the minimum and mid‑range and no offer will be made beyond mid‑range.
For this particular recruitment, the City is seeking a SPECIAL EVENTS Supervisor. The successful candidate will be need to be available to work flexible hours in order based on event and program schedules, which will include nights and weekend at times.
Under direction of the Parks and Recreation Manager, plans, organizes and provides supervision and oversight for relevant assigned recreation activities, services, facilities, special events, classes, excursions, and/or programs. Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates subordinate professional and paraprofessional recreation workers and volunteers; develops schedules, registration processes and fees for recreational and event services; conducts outreach and marketing activities with users, donors, sponsors and community groups and performs related work as required.
This supervisory level is responsible for day‑to‑day coordination and supervision of various activities and services administered within the Department of Parks, Recreation and Library. Areas of assignment may include, but is not limited to, Special Events and Adult programming and excursions. Recreation Supervisors are expected to exercise a high degree of expertise, initiative and independent decision‑making.

Mentors, coaches and supervises personnel who, in turn, supervise multiple programs, develop and implement specialty programs based on a combination of city funding, grants or community fundraising; may prepare, submit, and/or manage state, regional, and federal grants; works with community groups and City boards and commissions in developing the content and focus of various programs; allocates and schedules facilities for recreation, cultural and leisure programs on a community‑wide basis, interacts with multiple private sports leagues to enable play upon city‑owned fields.
Recommends procedures, program rules and regulations, fees, and hours of operation for programs; supervises the hiring, training, and evaluation of recreation coordinators, recreation leaders and volunteers; develops and administers an evaluation system and project budget for each assigned program or event; participates in development of annual department budget and operates within approved budget parameters; establishes a network of community volunteers to support programming and events.
Supervises and coordinates the ordering, issuance, use, care, and maintenance of equipment and supplies for sports programs and events; works with community groups, City boards, and commissioners; assists and supports state parks and recreation, and national parks and recreation association programs when feasible; may require public speaking appearances; communicates with and coordinates programming with school administrators; monitors programs for compliance with risk management policies, including consent forms, loss prevention, and incident investigation and reporting.

Knowledge and proficiency in grant writing, cultivating sponsorship programs, building and maintaining partnerships, and personnel management.

Administering and supervising classes, programs, and events.
Using office equipment, using Microsoft Office programs and e‑mail software.
Time management and organization.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co‑workers, the public, other City staff, the Mayor and City Council, and commission members.
Associate's degree in Recreation or related field and at least 5 years of experience with program planning, development and implementation is required, 2 of which must be supervisory.
OR Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field and at least three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in recreation, including supervisory experience is preferred.
*Degree must be from an institution accredited as recognized by the U.S Department of Education as indicated in the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.
Experience specifically with assigned focus area’s program planning, development, and facility management is highly desired.
Experience specifically with special Events, program planning, development, and facility management is highly desired.
