Powertrain Development Engineer
M2X Energy is a provider of low carbon methanol from stranded methane gas sources. We are a well‑funded, venture‑backed company founded by Breakthrough Energy Ventures. Our mission is to reduce the amount of natural gas that is flared and instead create economically viable products.
Base Pay Range $85,000.00/yr – $115,000.00/yr
The Powertrain Development Engineer will design, develop, and test compressor and powertrain technologies for M2X’s gas‑to‑liquid synthesis system utilizing flare gas and other stranded gases. This role will specify and source components to enhance performance, cost, and durability while advancing M2X’s innovative compressor technology.
In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to design and build future compressor systems and lead multiple projects through rapid development cycles.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and enhance gas compressor and powertrain systems (including reciprocating and centrifugal compressors) tailored to specific industry or client requirements.
Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing compressor systems, recommending and integrating new equipment or upgrades to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Oversee installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of compressor equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and supplier engineers to ensure successful integration and operation of compressor systems.
Provide technical support, expert advice, and training on compressor‑related issues to clients and colleagues.
Lead or participate in safety and risk assessment studies related to compressor system design and operation.
Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements, implementing innovative solutions as needed.
Prepare and review technical documentation, including performance data, mechanical and process drawings, and project reports.
Required Qualifications
BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; 3.0 GPA or above.
Hands‑on engine and/or compressor development and testing experience.
Experience integrating mechanical components into complex systems.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in engineering analysis tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Office Suite).
Willingness to travel to various M2X design and manufacturing sites, as well as field test locations.
2+ years of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
3.5 GPA or above.
MS/PhD in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
Track record of working in a team setting to develop and deliver engineering solutions.
3‑5 years of professional experience in compressor design and development.
Experience with detailed compressor and vibrational analysis.
