Working Arrangements

Minimum 2 days in office, maximum 3 days remote.

Hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

About the Unit Located within the Colorado Department of Human Services, the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health (OCFMH) is responsible for policy development, service delivery, program monitoring, and administrative oversight of the public behavioral health system. OCFMH funds and monitors numerous mental health and substance abuse community programs, and operates the Colorado Mental Health Hospitals at Fort Logan and Pueblo.

About the Position The position assists the director in oversight and monitoring of specialized competency-based evaluation and restoration programs located at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility and the Denver County Jail, as well as hospital-purchased beds at Peak View Behavioral Health. It includes referral screening, data collection, policy development, contractor audits, site visits, and coordination with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Screen referrals for admission to jail-based and hospital-purchased beds using established criteria and clinical judgment.

Analyze records, psychological assessments, and other information to determine placement needs.

Assist in data collection, tracking, analysis, and reporting to OCFMH and CDHS management.

Write departmental policy and procedures and develop process improvements.

Assist with audits of all programs to assess contractor performance and compliance.

Conduct site visits across all jail-based programs and hospital-purchased beds; act as a clinical consultant.

Coordinate programmatic functions with various entities and maintain daily communications with agencies and departments.

Participate in on-call responsibilities during weekends and evenings when required.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.

OR a combination of related education (e.g., Psychology, mental health, criminal justice) and/or relevant experience equivalent to six (6) years.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous state employee.

Experience in hospital, residential, group home, or outpatient settings.

Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field.

License to practice as a Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado.

Experience working with individuals with mental health issues, especially within the forensic population.

Previous experience with competency to stand trial and working with severely and persistently mentally ill in acute settings.

Conditions of Employment

Background checks, including name check, fingerprint check, and additional database checks; professional license verification.

Valid, unrestricted US driver’s license.

Occasional rotating shifts and frequent in-state travel between offices and detention facilities.

Minimum age of 21 years, due to the juvenile population served.
