About Bascom Hunter
Bascom Hunter is a technology-driven engineering company specializing in the design and manufacture of advanced environmental control, power, and propulsion systems for Aerospace & Defense (A&D) applications. Our mission‑critical solutions serve both military and industrial markets, emphasizing innovation, precision, and reliability.
We foster a hands‑on, collaborative environment where engineering excellence meets real‑world application. Our engineers are empowered to design, test, and deliver cutting‑edge systems that advance national security and high‑performance technology.
Position Overview
We are seeking Mechanical Engineers at various experience levels to join our growing engineering teams across multiple business units. This onsite position will focus on the design, analysis, and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems such as compressors, fans, pumps, valves, electric motors, and control systems integrated into vapor cycle and propulsion platforms.
Depending on experience, candidates may focus on mechanical design, CAD modeling, or system‑level development in support of programs across our Environmental Control and Power Systems divisions.
Key Responsibilities Design & Development
Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks (including PDM vaults). Design components and systems meeting customer and aerospace/military specifications.
System Integration
Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers to ensure mechanical designs integrate seamlessly within larger assemblies.
Analysis & Validation
Conduct FEA, CFD, or other performance simulations; support prototype builds, instrumentation, and qualification testing. (ANSYS / SolidWorks)
Manufacturing Support
Design tooling and fixtures; resolve fabrication and assembly challenges; ensure manufacturability and adherence to AS9100 / ISO9001 standards.
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare engineering drawings, test procedures, and reports; maintain design control in accordance with MIL‑STD and customer requirements.
Participate in design reviews, root‑cause investigations, and process improvement efforts. Drive technical excellence through collaboration and innovation.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
4–8 years of relevant mechanical design or system development experience (entry‑level candidates with strong fundamentals considered).
Proficiency in SolidWorks and familiarity with SolidWorks PDM.
Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), materials (aluminum, titanium, steel), and manufacturing processes (milling, turning, welding, casting).
Knowledge of aerospace/defense design standards and documentation practices.
Other Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship (due to DoD contracting requirements).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work onsite with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
Experience designing environmental control systems, turbomachinery, or power systems.
Familiarity with AS9100, ISO9001, and MIL‑STD standards.
Experience performing FEA/CFD simulations.
