Scientist I
Location Swiftwater, PA
Description Sanofi's contingent workforce program, FLEXT Direct, is seeking a Scientist I for a 12-month contract opportunity. This role supports the Protein Expression Group and focuses on baculovirus expression systems and molecular biology techniques to support research and development efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Generate recombinant baculovirus (WVB).
Perform protein expression using baculovirus insect cell systems in shake flasks.
Maintain insect cells, conduct transfections, infections, and harvest viral stocks from suspension cultures.
Sample culture flasks and prepare samples for analytical testing.
Conduct standard molecular biology tasks: DNA purification, PCR, Western blotting, and SDS‑PAGE.
Practice aseptic techniques during experimental procedures.
Wash glassware and maintain USP process equipment.
Design, analyze, and document experiments; maintain accurate lab notebooks and electronic records.
Present results at group and departmental meetings.
Support lab organization, reagent tracking, and inventory ordering.
Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with SOPs/SWIs and experimental protocols.
Coordinate data capture and maintain tracking systems.
Write and review technical protocols and reports.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or related fields.
0–2 years of hands‑on laboratory experience in academic or industry settings.
Hands‑on experience with molecular biology techniques: DNA purification, PCR, Western blot, and SDS‑PAGE (required).
Experience with baculovirus protein expression systems and insect cell culture is highly desirable.
Proficiency in DNA sequence analysis tools (e.g., SnapGene or similar software) is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct lab experiments and interpret results.
Experience with aseptic cell culture techniques, including cell maintenance, transfection, and viral stock harvest.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
Capable of working in a collaborative team environment and managing multiple assignments.
Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
Willingness to work flexible or changing schedules as needed.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is important.
Fluent in written and spoken English.
