Position Overview Our Industrial and Water market is growing across North America, and we are adding Sr. Electrical and Instrumentation designers to our team in our Lone Tree Colorado office. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in electrical systems and equipment design, with a strong background industrial plan designs. District Overview Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a full‑service engineering consulting and design firm serving a broad range of the industrial markets. Our combined staff of more than 1,700 engineers and design professionals have expertise that spans all major engineering disciplines to serve the industrial, transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Our operations‑focused engineering provides our clients with safe and efficient facilities, and it integrates our 130 years of construction experience to finish projects on time and to make sure that nobody gets hurt.
Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi‑faceted and leading‑edge division of Kiewit with best‑in‑class technical expertise focused on EPC and design‑build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as food & beverage, mineral processing, renewable fuels, pulp and paper, steel & aluminum, industrial buildings, and industrial energy, water and utilities.
Location This position can be based out of any of the following Kiewit offices, with some flexibility for hybrid work: Lenexa, Kansas; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Lone Tree, Colorado; Westlake, Texas; Houston, Texas. Some consideration may be given for fully remote options for very senior individuals. We do offer relocation to our Lenexa, Kansas Division office only.
Responsibilities
Coordinates with the project team by utilizing the Project Database: Request for Review Process, Holds List, ECN, Request for information from other disciplines, and all other applicable functions.
Utilizes applicable engineering national and local codes.
Develops schematics and one‑line drawings from engineering sketches or mark‑ups.
Designs duct bank, embedded conduit, cable tray, grounding and lighting systems from concept to completion utilizing engineering documents, sketches or vendor data.
Creates 3‑D models utilizing drawings, sketches, and design skills. Checks and navigates in the 3‑D models for interferences and constructability.
Routes electrical cables in a 3‑D environment to generate a cable schedule.
Models electrical components using vendor submittals and electrical designs.
Performs calculations to check allowable fill in conduits and cable tray systems according to NEC requirements and to size pull boxes.
Gathers information needed to develop design and verify voltage separation requirements are met.
Creates plan drawings and details for electrical deliverables.
Analyzes, inspects, and constructs designs while adhering to electrical quality standards and departmental procedures.
Provides lessons learned throughout the project by utilizing the Lessons Learned database.
Completes as‑builts by utilizing Request for Information (RFI) forms, Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and red‑marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
Participates in project meetings as required.
Checks design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
Resolves checked drawings; proves and understands comments made.
Completes miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
Qualifications
Associates, vocational or bachelor's degree in design/drafting technology, engineering, engineering technology, mathematics or similar degree. If no degree, must have 15 years’ experience performing functions as outlined above.
8 years of electrical design experience as outlined above.
Experience utilizing 3‑D programs such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or Navisworks and have knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
Must be able to conceptualize in a 3‑D environment. Experience supporting industrial projects like water/wastewater, data centers, power is highly desired.
Must understand NEC code as it pertains to industrial facilities.
Must be able to communicate through emails and utilize electronic meeting requests.
Must have a working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases and PDF software.
Must be able to represent Kiewit manner to owners, contractors, vendors and any other contacts outside the Kiewit organization.
Working Conditions
Regular, reliable attendance.
Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
Base Compensation:
$99,000 - $120,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
