The Safety Specialist assists Terros Health in maintaining a healthy and safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. This position serves as direct support for patients and other patrons within the facility at the Recovery Centers. This position uses superior customer service skills to help mitigate situations that may arise. This Safety Specialist utilizes advanced crisis intervention techniques to maintain a presence of safety, security, and support to the patients and staff, as well as dissuading undesirable or illegal behaviors in and around the Site. This includes monitoring trends and implementing plans for improvement. This position reports to the Manager of Safety Services.

Location: Oak, 4451 E Oak St., Phoenix, AZ 85008

100% in Office and may travel to other locations as requested.

Schedule: 9 am – 6 pm

Maintains presence in and around the Site to help support safety and security for the patients, visitors, and staff while promoting a culture of safe practices.

Utilizes advanced crisis intervention and customer service skills to de-escalate situations that arise.

Responsible for the review, compliance and performance improvement of Terros Health and its Safety programs. Ensures that all staff are familiar with the Health & Safety emergency programs procedures and guidelines.

Ensures a safe work environment by identifying hazards and completing safety inspections as directed including walk-throughs of sites.

Assists with Health and Safety education and training for Terros Health workforce and patients, such as heat precautions, hazardous waste management, Narcan/opioid awareness/harm reduction, infection prevention/control, CPR, De-Escalation, Safety Data Sheet (SDS), Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP), and disability services.

Coordinates with site leadership the execution and maintaining up-to-date documentation records of safety drills performed in assigned sites.

Works to develop and maintain a welcoming environment in and around the Site.

Coordinates with the site leadership to resolve on-site complaints related to health and safety.

Maintains, organizes, stores and prepares sites First Aid Station (AED/First Aid Kit/Blood Borne Pathogen Kit/Emergency Flashlight/SDS/EPP) ensuring all sites have proper supplies and inspected for use

Work to minimize risks and ensure compliance with safety regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines

Proactively engages with individuals in and around the Site to identify and mitigate potential escalations

Serves as point of contact with law enforcement and first responders when necessary

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other activities as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or associate’s degree, preferably in a safety related field

Minimum of 1 year of experience working in the behavioral/medical health field

Training preferred – OSHA 10, NIMS and FEMA

Skills preferred/required – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, electronic medical record, NextGen preferred

Interpersonal skills which allow for professional and positive relationships with co-workers, members, families, and other community members.

Bi-lingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license, be 21 years of age with a minimum of 3 years driving experience, and meet requirements of Terros Health’s driving policy

Must pass a TB test, a criminal background check and drug test

Must have a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card or apply for an Arizona fingerprint clearance card (Level 1) within 7 working days of assuming role
