About the Opportunity Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) combines experiential learning with a liberal arts education, interdisciplinary research, and community engagement. Job Summary The Senior Research Associate will serve as a key member of the research team for a National Institute of Justice funded collaboration between Northeastern University and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department (KCPD). The research project involves the analysis of automated vehicle locator (AVL) data and body‑worn camera (BWC) video to analyze police patrol activity and police‑citizen interactions. The Senior Research Associate will work remotely and will make quarterly trips to Kansas City Police Headquarters (funded) to participate in research team training activities.

Primary responsibilities include: collecting and maintaining project databases, assisting with the qualitative analysis of BWC video, extracting data from KCPD databases, processing data to operationalize variables of interest, coding BWC video for inter‑rater reliability, identifying additional data sources, collaborating with KCPD offices to establish data collection protocols, reviewing the work of graduate student researchers, and assisting with the presentation of research findings to academic and public audiences. Other duties include co‑authoring technical reports, scholarly journal articles, and policy briefs. This is a grant‑funded, one‑year position.

Qualifications Master’s degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely‑related social science discipline is required; PhD strongly preferred or a Master’s degree that demonstrates exemplary prior relevant experience. Prior experience conducting social science research in police department settings and rigorous mixed‑methods research projects is required. Strong database management skills are required. Prior experience with observational analysis of video data is strongly preferred.

Compensation Grade/Pay Type 107S

Expected Hiring Range $52,820.00 – $74,607.50

With the pay range shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include education, experience, location, knowledge, expertise, and skills, as well as a pay comparison to similarly‑situated employees in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
