Overview As the Development Manager (DM) at Breakthrough T1D, you will lead the day‑to‑day execution of integrated fundraising efforts that support our organizational strategy and mission. Your primary focus will be on building relationships with donors and fundraising volunteers within your assigned event portfolio to drive impact, strengthen the donor and volunteer pipeline, and increase revenue.

Breakthrough T1D is a leading global type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization dedicated to accelerating breakthroughs to treat, prevent, and ultimately cure T1D. Our mission is to improve lives today and tomorrow by partnering with government, regulatory officials, insurance companies, and the broader community to influence policies and expand access to care worldwide.

Key Responsibilities Fundraising & Engagement – 60%

Implement revenue and engagement plans that drive new levels of performance and year‑over‑year growth in the chapter. This includes driving individual and corporate supporter growth within the assigned event portfolio.

Achieve personal event revenue goals and support overall event, chapter revenue, and engagement objectives.

Collaborate with national and chapter partners to implement annual strategies that grow the assigned event portfolio through corporate and individual donor engagement and stewardship at the event level. Identify and develop new business with existing donors and new prospects.

Implement stewardship strategies for all event supporters that align with program standards; ensure timely and consistent execution throughout the year.

Deploy tactics that build the foundation and pipeline of supporters, supporting long‑term success of the organization.

Implement strategies to retain, acquire, and activate supporters in events, ensuring fundraising and participation goals are met for current and future activities.

Volunteer Management – 20%

Recruit, cultivate, and manage volunteer leaders who drive revenue as key partners, including event leadership and committees.

Ensure meaningful engagement of volunteers at all levels and maintain good working relationships with key volunteer partners.

Partner with volunteer leadership to solicit funding and additional support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources.

Awareness – 10%

Support and maintain the vision, mission, and priorities of Breakthrough T1D. Understand and articulate the organization’s strategic direction and purpose.

Promote mission engagement opportunities throughout the community in research, advocacy, and clinical trials.

Represent the interests, professionalism, and integrity of Breakthrough T1D in all activities, upholding organizational standards by example.

Administration and Management – 10%

Maintain departmental and organization‑wide policies and procedures.

Develop expertise in fundraising management platforms as appropriate.

Participate in monthly strategy meetings with program partners to monitor KPIs, identify risks, and implement actions to ensure event success.

Partner annually with national partners to establish budget and pipeline strategies specific to the event portfolio and role.

Requirements

3‑5 years of fundraising experience with a clear record of achievement in a complex, mission‑driven organization with revenue responsibilities exceeding $500k; experience in large‑scale events (walk, gala, etc.). Strong skills in donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and ongoing stewardship.

Experience partnering with active volunteers and managing a large network of passionate volunteers.

High energy, integrity, courage, empathy, creativity, and a collaborative spirit that supports individual and team goals.

Proven ability to maintain an extensive network of strategic relationships (donors, volunteers, community partners, etc.) in the local area. Existing knowledge and network in the territory preferred.

Enthusiastic spokesperson/representative of Breakthrough T1D’s mission; clear communicator who can inspire others to engage and support the organization.

Highly efficient time management, able to meet deadlines under pressure.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM databases.

College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to travel locally; evening and weekend work as needed.

Signature Event Specific Items

Secure and retain table hosts, guests, and event sponsors.

Acquire, cultivate, and solicit mid‑ and major‑level Fund A Cure donors.

Design, plan, and implement cultivation events that inspire and engage key event donors and volunteers.

Develop and implement meaningful audience‑development strategies that inspire giving on the event night, maximizing table spend and activation.
