Responsibilities
Help direct the planning, preparations and coaching activities of the Track and Field program for LAMS with the Head Coach.
Plan, schedule and conduct a regular program of practice and competition in accordance with school, NMAA and district rules.
Supervise, evaluate and recommend appointment and assignment of coaching staff.
Assist the Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer with the distribution and collection of required forms (NMAA, district, high school).
Attend meetings pertaining to Track & Field as scheduled by NMAA or district.
Maintain an accurate inventory of sport equipment.
Oversee safety and conditions of the facility or area assigned to track programs.
Supervise, ensure safety, and protect the welfare of students during all practices and competitions.
Establish and maintain good rapport with athletes, staff, parents, community groups and news media.
Assist the Athletic Director in planning and organizing promotion, recruitment and recognition programs for the sport.
Perform assigned tasks timely and efficiently.
Perform assigned tasks with a high standard of quality.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Qualifications
Active NM Athletic Coaching license.
Concussion course certificate.
Fundamentals of Coaching course certificate.
Heat certification.
AED/CPR certification.
Successful experience as a head or assistant coach, middle school coach, player or coach at the college level.
Required Certifications and Fees
Fingerprint Background Check – fee $59 (Credit/Debit Card only).
Athletic Coaching License – fee $50 (Credit/Debit Card only).
Fundamentals of Coach Course – fee $45 (Credit/Debit Card).
First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches Course – fee $45 (Credit/Debit Card).
Concussion in Sports Course – no fee.
Heat Illness Prevention Course (if applicable) – no fee.
After completion of each course, print the Certificate of Completion and send it to Los Alamos Public Schools Human Resources by hand delivery, mail or email.
Applicants have a maximum of two (2) months to complete all required courses after processing and fingerprinting to become a Coach with Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS).
