The shift pattern for this post is 40 hours per week plus 1:25 on‑call with the North Psychiatry rota.
Location and Service Overview The position is based at the Cairnmhor Resource Centre, part of Dumbarton Joint Hospital, Dumbarton. The role includes quality improvement, teaching, training, research and 10 community sessions, with one acute hospital liaison session to the Vale of Leven Hospital. Liaison responsibilities are shared with a nursing liaison and another consultant; there is no RMO responsibility for inpatients, as the complex and acute beds are overseen by two other consultant old‑age psychiatrists.
Responsibilities
Clinical leadership of the CMHT and liaison service.
Diagnose and manage severe and enduring mental health conditions in older adults, including some young‑onset dementia patients.
Educate and mentor trainees, facilitate teaching sessions, and support clinical training.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects.
Attend the North Glasgow rota on‑call (1:25 minimum) alongside a second‑on‑higher trainee, typically up to 3 am each day.
Qualifications
Full registration with the General Medical Council, a licence to practise and eligibility for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
UK‑trained psychiatrists: evidence of higher Specialist Training leading to a CCT, or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR), or within six months of confirmed entry at the date of interview.
Non‑UK applicants: demonstration of equivalent training.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Working Pattern This is a full‑time post. Applicants wishing to work fewer sessions or flexibly may be considered. There may also be an option for additional elements of the Programme of Development (EPA) if required by service planning.
