Location: Pierre, SD
Salary: $29.09 - $35.39 per hour, depending on qualifications; Pay Grade: A1 or A2
Closing Date: 11/21/25
This is a full‑time position with the Bureau of Finance & Management, Executive Management Finance Office. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced accountants, develop analytical skills, and begin a long‑term career with the State.
Responsibilities
Assist in the year‑end accrual process.
Review payments and financial documents for accuracy to support the preparation of financial statements.
Track and monitor expenditures, providing statistical information and analysis.
Assist in the implementation of a new enterprise resource planning accounting system.

Ideal Candidate
For A1: applicable accounting experience plus an associate’s degree (or higher).
For A2: a 4‑year accounting degree and 1–2 years of progressive experience equivalent to level 1 accountant.
Interest in governmental accounting and a desire to obtain CPA certification is beneficial.
Knowledge & Skills
Microsoft Excel, Word, Query, and other desktop tools.
Governmental (fund) accounting, GAAP, GASB statements, GAAS and Governmental Auditing Standards, and governmental fiscal administrative processes.
Clear and concise communication.
Teamwork and effective relationship building.
Attention to detail.
