Major Gifts Officer
Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP-DC) Washington, DC Metro Area Chapter is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to grow the school’s philanthropic support through strategic engagement of leadership and major donors. The MGO will manage a portfolio of 60–100 donors capable of contributing $10,000+ annually, and play a key role in customizing and growing major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaign efforts.
Responsibilities
Grow philanthropic support through strategic engagement of leadership and major donors.
Manage a portfolio of 60–100 donors and prospects who can contribute $10,000+ annually.
Develop and implement customized strategies for major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns.
Blend frontline fundraising activities with strategy, analysis, and donor stewardship.
Collaborate with the Chief Advancement Officer and cross‑functional teams to support Lab’s mission.
Maintain accurate donor records and report on fundraising progress.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least eight years of progressive development experience.
Experience in independent schools, higher education, or mission‑driven nonprofits (preferred).
Strong relational and communication skills.
Ability to customize outreach and maintain donor stewardship.
Eagerness to contribute to a school that supports learners with language‑based learning differences.
Compensation & Benefits Salary: $110,000–$120,000 per year. Comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life & disability insurance, retirement investment plan with employer match, paternity/maternity leave, Employee Assistance Program, generous PTO, paid holidays, and sick time accrual.
