Reports to: Building Principal / Supervisor of Athletics.

Position type: Full‑time Assistant Coach (A‑2 schedule).

Summary To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self‑esteem.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.

Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.

Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times students are present.

Maintain accurate statistics, records and results of the season.

Enforce discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.

Maintain competency in rules, rule interpretations, meet procedures, coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport.

Enforce criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition and be consistent in establishing criteria.

Adhere to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up.

Work closely with the athletic director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.

Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms.

Maintain necessary attendance forms, insurance records and similar paperwork.

Account for all equipment or delegate the responsibility.

Develop a consistent and positive public communications procedure through the school and media to inform parents and the general public about the athletic program.

Qualification Requirements Coaching Certificate Required. Coaches must meet certification requirements set by the State of Connecticut.

All supervisory responsibilities must be fulfilled; supervise students at all times.

Ability to read, interpret directions, write reports and communicate effectively with students, parents and other staff.

Ability to calculate figures and perform any math functions associated with the position and provide budget input when requested.

Apply common sense and deal with problems in a practical and reasonable manner.

Apply basic computer knowledge to the activity at hand.

Perform duties in compliance with district and Board of Education guidelines and policies.

Knowledge of and/or experience in the activity.

Meet the physical requirements of the position that may vary widely depending on the activity.
