What work will you perform? The Vice President, Government Services plays a critical role in promoting volume and revenue growth of key customers across various government entities at the federal, state, and local levels and customers that sell directly to or support government operations. The person in this position provides departmental leadership across the teams that support government services and supporting areas with the organization. The person in this role is accountable for providing strategic guidance across education, sales, technology and operations critical to the advancement of this service offering
The Vice President of Government Services will report directly to the EVP of Business Development and will work cross-functionally with all departments on supporting efforts to International and customs
Essential Responsibilities:
Lead and manage all business development efforts including agent development, administrative and operational requirements of the department
Maintain and expand opportunities within the government sector
Enhance service offerings
Coordinate agent assignments to fully capitalize on opportunities
Provide sales and marketing support
Drive entire Government Services’ department to meet, if not exceed, established metrics across every transportation mode (e.g. air, ocean, rail, truckload, Landstar Transportation Logistics, intermodal) service offering, and Landstar Operating Company
Participate in formulating and administering company policy that impacts all government customers, agents, BCOs, or department employees
Represent Landstar in developing government policy, rules and regulations through participation with the National Defense Transportation Association, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, or other applicable agencies
Review and analyze department profit and loss (P&L) to determine progress toward goals and objectives
Manage emergency services efforts for FEMA, etc.
Grow and maintain strategic and/or executive-level relationships with federal agencies, governmental departments, senior government/defense officials and commercial executives throughout the defense transportation industry.
Manage government-required registrations and certifications for all Landstar carriers in order to participate in business with federal, state and local government entities as well as specific government vendors, contractors, 3PLs and suppliers
Keep abreast of – and ensure compliance with - all current and new DOD and other government agencies’ rules, regulations, policies, and contractual requirements
Regularly communicate and coordinate with other officers, across the entire company, in order to facilitate daily operations or anticipate requirements and resolve issues before they arise.
Attend and participate in all required or applicable seminars, meetings, trade shows, vendor day meetings, contract or purchasing meetings, professional associations, or other events to identify new government business
Required Minimum Experience and Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
20 years of related experience at the leadership level
Active Secret Security Clearance through Defense Security Services (DSS) or ability to obtain
Preferred Experience and Education:
Master’s degree
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to manage and motivate employees
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to read, interpret and understand contract language
Must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines
Strong organizational skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality while conducting work
Familiar with Microsoft Office and Internet
Negotiation, conflict resolution and mediation skills
Working knowledge of financial statements and budget preparation and management
Ability to speak effectively
Handle escalated calls/issues regarding for resolution
