Current Vacancies - Public Works/Environmental Services Department

We are recruiting for the Accounting Technician role with the option to underfill as an Accounting Services Representative.

The Accounting Technician coordinates and maintains various types of accounting information required for the City's financial reporting system as well as department specific systems and prepares various summaries, for both internal and external use, from this information.

Responsibilities include reviewing and approving accounting transactions, preparing journal entries, providing accounting guidance to departmental staff, overseeing department inventories, and handling accounting and budgeting projects & research as assigned. The role works with City Departments to ensure records are adequately prepared in accordance with state and federal laws, City merit rules, and administrative memorandums related to payroll and benefits.

Experience, Education, and Training (Accounting Technician)

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
AND
  • At least one year of appropriate Accounting experience.
OR
  • ABachelor's Degree in Business, or other closely related field, with a minor or equivalent college credit hours in Accounting.
AND
  • Three years of appropriate Accounting experience.
  • Directly related experience may be substituted for the formal education requirement on a year‑for‑year basis, plus a minimum of 15 credit hours in Accounting coursework from an accredited college.

Experience, Education, and Training (If underfilled as an Accounting Services Representative)

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, or other closely related field, with at least 15 credit hours in accounting.
  • Directly related work experience may be substituted for the formal education on a year‑for‑year basis, plus a minimum of 15 credit hours in Accounting coursework from an accredited college.
PREFERRED
  • Experience in payroll and/or government accounting depending on assignment.
