Indiana University Health Riley Hospital is seeking a dedicated Master’s Level Social Worker (MSW) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW) to provide vital psychosocial support, assessments, and interventions in a hospital setting. This PRN role offers flexibility while making a meaningful difference in patient care and safety.
Position Overview
Meet face‑to‑face with patients and families to assess psychosocial needs and provide counseling.
Collaborate with healthcare team members to facilitate timely, safe, and effective care transitions.
Interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs, serving as a role model for caring practices.
Conduct psychosocial risk assessments, evaluating prior functioning, support systems, and coping mechanisms.
Provide mental health assessments upon physician referral.
Support complex discharge planning for safe transfer to appropriate next‑level care.
Serve as a point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elder abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence.
Act as liaison between IU Health and protective services (APS/DCS).
Provide intervention in guardianship, foster care, adoption, and mental health Level II placements.
Offer specialized mental health services, including crisis intervention and addiction assessments.
Lead and support responses to dangerous or potentially dangerous situations with effective de‑escalation techniques.
Conduct interviews with victims, perpetrators, families, and significant others to gather critical information and inform care decisions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
Permanent Indiana license as an LSW.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent de‑escalation training (to be completed within 6 months of hire).
Relevant experience in healthcare, mental health, or community services preferred.
Evidence‑based psychosocial assessment and crisis intervention skills.
Knowledge of disease processes, human behavior, and social determinants of health.
Complex discharge planning and care coordination skills.
Legal knowledge related to protective services at the state and county levels.
Ability to adapt services for geographically, culturally, and financially diverse populations.
Strong working relationships with hospital administration, law enforcement, community agencies, schools, and probation.
Computer literacy, including proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
