Job Summary:
Facilitate learning and teaching in an integrated, inclusive preschool classroom (ages 3 to 5½ years); plan and administer small and large group instruction. Form and implement student educational programs; support and follow through with individual education plan (IEP) goals and accommodations. Perform daily administrative functions including preparing class materials, disinfecting room and toys, writing student progress reports, attending IEP‑related meetings, and performing other related clerical duties. Communicate with district staff and/or student guardians regarding student progress; conduct parent conferences. Tend to the personal needs of students including lifting, diapering, and custodial/toilet training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, implement, and monitor each student’s educational program; supervise students in the classroom.
Supervise, evaluate, and maintain records for program employees and para‑educators. Delegate, train and resolve issues.
Attend and participate in meetings related to early childhood students’ IEPs; support and follow through with students’ IEP goals by collaborating with special educators.
Oversee day‑to‑day classroom operations: prepare materials, maintain discipline, handle parent complaints, record attendance and progress notes, manage food handling and sanitation.
Supervise children on the playground; plan and implement meaningful activities for large motor periods.
Write student progress reports and conduct parent conferences. Communicate with guardians and special educators regarding progress.
Complete Inter‑Rater Reliability data entry and meet State of Colorado checkpoints.
Purchase classroom supplies as needed and according to district guidelines.
Attend professional development trainings (e.g., First Aid/CPR, crisis prevention, literacy, equity, communication strategies, social/emotional development) and participate in PLCs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
At least one year of early childhood education/preschool teaching or educational assistant experience.
Ability to work one‑on‑one and in small groups with students.
Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher qualification (verification letter required).
First Aid/CPR certification or completion of an introductory class.
Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System (PDIS) registration.
Basic knowledge of office equipment (telephone, copier, fax, email) and Microsoft Office.
Intermediate interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to follow all Federal and State licensing rules and regulations.
Ability to implement behavior modification techniques and manage stressful situations.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work location may change to meet organization needs.
Medium strength level (lifting or carrying up to 50 lb).
Indoor and outdoor work; moderate noise level.
Frequent bending, squatting, reaching, climbing; eye‑hand coordination; visual concentration.
Prolonged standing, walking, squatting, overhead work, occasional lifting or pushing.
Assisting students with custodial needs (feeding, toilet). Outdoor activities possible.
Typical school district environment with potential for volatile outbursts.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in public sector education.
Experience working with diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Racially conscious and culturally competent.
Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
Three years of preschool teaching experience.
Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Director certification.
Colorado Shines PDIS 3.0 Level 2.
