DEAN OF STUDENTS

Heritage Preparatory School is a Pre-K through 12th grade classical, Christian school located in midtown Atlanta, GA. We exist to provide an academically rigorous educational experience designed to help students know, love, and practice that which is true, good, and excellent and to prepare them to live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man. POSITION SUMMARY

The Dean of Students has the administrative role and responsibility to shape and foster an upper school culture that promotes the development of students who embody the Portrait of a Graduate. The Dean plays a formative role in developing programs and events that create a dynamic and thriving school culture through which students cultivate their God-given gifts and talents. Working closely with the school’s leadership team, the Dean helps create a grace-filled disciplinary program with a goal of true repentance and restoration. The Dean is also responsible for overseeing the distinctive and intentional experiences of the Heritage Prep High School designed to help fulfill its purpose, mission, and vision. Care of Students

The Dean of Students will care for students with a particular attention to their spiritual maturation. The Dean will act as a mediator in disputes between students, communicate with parents about any disciplinary issues, and partner with them in order to carry out necessary consequences all while pointing them to the grace and true forgiveness of the cross. The Dean will make an intentional effort to connect with each student individually as he or she cares for them as a whole person. Care of Culture

The Dean of Students will care for the overall culture of the Upper School through the development of particular programs. The Dean will oversee morning liturgy and arrange for student leaders to lead liturgy in the mornings, as well as arranging speakers and running the weekly upper school chapel service. The Dean will oversee the high school mentorship programs and ensure the care of Founders Hall (high school gathering spot) through partnership with student leaders. The Dean will oversee and care for the House system by sorting students appropriately into Houses, choosing the House and student leaders in partnership with the school administrative leadership, and fostering a sense of healthy competition through various tournaments and events. The Dean will plan weekly City as a Classroom excursions for freshmen and sophomores, aiming to enrich their education through service and historical or culturally significant excursions and experiences. The Dean will also oversee other service opportunities for middle and high school students throughout the year, encouraging the students to be the hands and feet of Christ within Atlanta and beyond. Finally, the Dean of Students in partnership with the Head of Upper School will plan the yearly class trips, including High School Reconnect; freshman year trip to Washington, D.C.; a sophomore year mission trip; and the senior year trip to Europe. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Commitment to the mission of Heritage and to developing students who embody the Portrait of a Graduate. Demonstrated capacity to produce high-quality work with quick turn-around. Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to teach the Bible, lead chapel services, and communicate effectively with staff, students, faculty, and parents. Have a teachable spirit and be able to take criticism with a willingness to learn and grow. Be well organized and process strong administrative skills. Have a spirit of flexibility. Ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high-stress situations. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Maintain confidentiality in all school matters. Be able to follow through on communications and decisions. Have the ability to present a positive image of the school to others and to the community. JOB DESCRIPTION

Be a born-again Christian, committed to the Lord, exhibiting a close and dynamic daily walk with Jesus Christ. Be in agreement with and able to support the school’s Statement of Faith. Be a student of God's Word and be able to apply Biblical truth in speaking and counseling situations. Put the oneness of the Body of Christ above membership in a denomination. Understand the distinctives of Christian education and Heritage Preparatory School and be committed to those distinctives.
