Job Title: Color Compounding Production Manager
Location: Greater Charlotte, NC Area
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Color & Additive Compounding Production Manager to oversee the production process for custom color blends and compounding operations in our manufacturing facility. This role is essential for ensuring the consistent quality, efficiency, and safety of color formulations used in our products. The ideal candidate will have experience in color matching, compounding, and production management within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities: Production Oversight:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the color compounding department to ensure production goals, deadlines, and quality standards are met.
Supervise and lead a team of color compounders, technicians, and other production staff.
Oversee the mixing, blending, and batching of color pigments, resins, and other raw materials to create accurate color compounds.
Monitor and optimize production processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain quality control.
Color Formulation & Matching:
Work closely with R&D, Quality Control, and product development teams to ensure that color formulations meet customer specifications and industry standards.
Conduct color matching tests and adjust formulas as needed to achieve the desired shade and finish.
Maintain a color library, ensuring accurate records of formulations and batch data for traceability.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure strict adherence to all safety and environmental regulations, as well as company policies.
Oversee quality control checks to ensure that all compounds meet required performance and aesthetic standards.
Investigate and troubleshoot any quality issues in the production process and implement corrective actions.
Equipment & Process Maintenance:
Oversee the maintenance and operation of compounding equipment such as mixers, extruders, and blenders.
Ensure that equipment is maintained, calibrated, and operating at peak performance.
Develop and implement process improvements to increase productivity, minimize downtime, and reduce costs.
Train new staff on color compounding techniques, safety protocols, and company procedures.
Foster a collaborative and safety-conscious work environment by promoting teamwork, open communication, and continuous improvement.
Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and encourage ongoing development for team members.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate production records, including batch logs, quality control reports, and maintenance schedules.
Prepare and present regular production reports to upper management, highlighting key performance metrics, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
5+ years of experience in color compounding, production management, or a related manufacturing role.
5+ years in twin screw extrusion
Strong knowledge of color theory, pigment chemistry, and color matching techniques.
Experience with compounding equipment (e.g., mixers, blenders, extruders).
Familiarity with safety, quality control, and environmental standards in a production setting.
Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Ability to analyze and solve complex technical issues related to color formulation and production processes.
Proficiency with ERP or manufacturing software for inventory and production tracking.
Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in industries such as plastics, coatings, paints, or automotive where color compounding is critical.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
A change agent with strong leadership skills.
