Job Summary This position performs specialized duties in the control of air traffic on and within the vicinity of the campus airport.
Responsibilities
Duty 1 — Controls air traffic on and within vicinity of the airport according to established procedures and policies to prevent collisions and to minimize delays.
Duty 2 — Answers radio calls from arriving and departing aircraft and issues landing and take-off instructions and information.
Duty 3 — Transfers control of departing flights to, and accepts control of arriving flights from, air traffic control center.
Duty 4 — Alerts airport emergency crew and other designated personnel by radio or telephone when airplanes are having flight difficulties.
Duty 5 — Controls airport floodlights and boundary, runway, and hazard lights.
Duty 6 — Operates radio and monitors radars to control aircraft operating in vicinity of airport.
Duty 7 — Signals aircraft flying under visual flight rules, using electric signal light or flags.
Duty 8 — Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Other Required Qualifications: FAA Control Tower Operator Certificate; Current FAA Class II medical/ability to obtain FAA Class II Medical
Required Experience: Extensive ATC Tower experience
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience: Additional experience in terminal, en-route, or flight service is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of FAA enroute RADAR procedures; knowledge of air traffic control procedures and principles; knowledge of air traffic control equipment operations; knowledge of computers and job-related software. Skills to make timely decisions; skills in decision making and problem solving; skills in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public; skills in oral and written communication.
