Overview The School of Biological Sciences (SBS) in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a cluster hire focused on advancing understanding of microbiomes. The positions include one tenured Associate or Full Endowed Professor working on microbiome-microbiome interactions (apply interfolio: 174930) and two tenure-track assistant professor positions focused on host-microbiome interactions (apply interfolio: 174540) and plant microbiomes (apply interfolio: 174588). Review of applications will begin on 30 October for assistant professor positions and on 15 November for the endowed chair.

Position specifics The University seeks innovative and creative scholars who will establish discipline-leading, student-involved, and externally funded research programs focused on the microbiome. The candidates should complement one or more of the four synergistic SBS research themes: Biological Foundations of One Health; Behavior from Molecules to Ecosystems; Mechanisms of Biodiversity; and Ecology of a Changing Planet. They should demonstrate strong potential for cross-disciplinary collaborations across the SBS, the Norman and Health campuses, and national and international partnerships.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead a vigorous research program focused on microbiomes, with mentoring of postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates in research and professional development.

Contribute to formal undergraduate and graduate instruction in the SBS microbiology curriculum (or plant biology curriculum for the plant microbiome candidate), with one course per semester, and participate in newly developed courses within their area of expertise.

Demonstrate potential to align with one or more of the four SBS research themes listed above and to build cross-campus and international collaborations.

Experience mentoring students and contributing to teaching and program development in microbiome-related science.
