Department Details

GSS-Inver Grove Heights is a 46-room facility offering long‑term care/skilled nursing care as well as post‑acute rehabilitation services.

Job Summary Full‑time Health Information Coordinator (HIM) - 32 hours per week. LTC HIM experience preferred. Understands the necessity for timely completion of medical record documentation, analyzes records for missing documentation and signatures, compares the documentation against required standards, and enters deficiencies for providers in the electronic medical record system.

Responsibilities

Perform record analysis by abstracting and recognizing the relation of a complete medical record.

Utilize job‑specific software in analysis and monitoring functions, maintaining high competence in EMR and document imaging.

Complete admission and discharge related functions, including retrieval of previous medical records.

Scan and capture documents in a timely manner, confirm capture clarity and quality, and index documents using imaging software.

Monitor timeliness and completion of medical record components to assure regulatory compliance.

Enter and maintain medical professional information in the EMR.

Assign diagnosis codes based on supporting documentation and ensure accurate billing for all payers.

Process release of information (ROI) requests within requested timeframes, maintaining legal regulations.

Generate reports as requested and support providers with EMR usage and workflows.

Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security regulations when handling protected health information.

Participate in Health Department survey activity and support EMR usage education.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Health Information or Medical Record Technology preferred.

Experience in health care or long‑term care preferred.

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.
