Overview
Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire Six (6) Equipment I and Equipment II positions. The Equipment Operator I is the entry-level classification in the Equipment Operator series. The Equipment Operator I performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties in the operation of light equipment utilized in road construction, maintenance and repair work. Equipment Operator II is the journey level classification in the Equipment Operator series. The Equipment Operator II performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the operation of medium equipment utilized in road construction, maintenance and repair work. These are
full-time, benefited
positions that will work
Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm
(Summer Schedule), and
Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm
(Winter Schedule). These positions will work out of
5201 St. Vrain Rd., Longmont , Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, these positions are
non-exempt
(eligible for overtime). Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. Hiring Salary Range : Equipment Operator I:
$62,520.00 - $76,284.00 Annually Equipment Operator II:
$65,688.00 - $80,148.00 Annually Tentative Hiring Timeline: First Round Interviews: Week of November 9th Reference Check: Week of November 9th New employees receive an
80-hour bank
of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month. (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Boulder County offers

Equipment Operator I: Operates equipment such as single-axle trucks, light front-end loaders and other light equipment used for County road construction, snow removal, maintenance and repair. Equipment Operator I: Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment. Equipment Operator I: Checks and reports present or anticipated mechanical problems of assigned equipment. Equipment Operator I: Performs manual labor as a crew member involved in construction and maintenance projects. Equipment Operator I: May operate, as a trainee, medium equipment such as backhoes, tandem-axle trucks and medium front-end loaders. Equipment Operator I: Performs related work, as required. Equipment Operator I: May be reassigned in emergency situations. Responsibilities
Equipment Operator II: Operates equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, tandem-axle trucks and other medium equipment used for County road construction, snow removal, maintenance and repair. Equipment Operator II: Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment. Equipment Operator II: Checks and reports present or anticipated mechanical problems of assigned equipment. Equipment Operator II: Performs general labor required on construction and maintenance projects. Equipment Operator II: Trains and gives general direction to other employees. Equipment Operator II: May operate, as a trainee, heavy equipment such as graders, loaders and snow plows. Equipment Operator II: Performs related work, as required. Equipment Operator II: May be reassigned in emergency situations. Equipment Operator I: Frequently lift from floor to waist with one or two hands 10-30 lb. tools, equipment and building materials Frequently use shovels, rakes, sledgehammers, digging bars, and picks Occasionally lift and carry heavier items as specified Equipment Operator II: Frequent use of shovels, rakes, sledgehammers, digging bars and picks Occasionally lift and carry heavier items as specified Body Movement: Equipment Operator I: When snowing – sit and drive; when not snowing – stand for long periods and perform flagging Equipment Operator II: When snowing – sit and drive; when not snowing – stand for long periods and perform flagging Both roles may include occasional mounting/dismounting and working in unusual positions as required.
