Overview
Manager for Strategic Operations and Initiatives. Reports to the Director for Administrative Programs and oversees the management of a portfolio of strategic initiatives, planning, and tracking efforts at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC). Responsibilities include supervising day-to-day unit activities, directing a section or group of analysts, overseeing complex projects and initiatives, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. This role includes the CCSG (Cancer Center Support Grant) planning and management as a key component. Responsibilities
Lead logistics, planning, preparation, timely submission and reporting for CCSG, ensuring compliance with NIH guidelines. Manage ongoing CCSG-related reporting requirements (e.g., annual progress report, External Advisory Board meeting, Internal Advisory Board meeting, etc.). Coordinate across CFCCC units to compile data and narratives that meet reporting standards. Facilitate the development, execution, refinement and tracking of the CFCCC strategic plan. Develop and maintain tools and processes to monitor progress, report metrics, and provide updates to leadership. Lead implementation of a broad range of strategic initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational priorities. Collaborate with stakeholders to define objectives, develop timelines, assign responsibilities, track progress and report on outcomes. Ensure adherence to CCSG requirements and participate in ongoing monitoring of structure, direction, and fiscal management to support NCI designation. What It Takes to be Successful
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across UCI and Health System with leadership, faculty, staff, and students. Customer service skills appropriate to the job; supervise, motivate, develop and evaluate staff. Strong knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols, and procedures. Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, regulations and requirements of UC, state, federal, and external agencies. Proficiency with common office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to apply creative solutions to complex problems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; effective communication with all levels of leadership, faculty and staff. Advanced program and project management skills; strong organizational and time management abilities; ability to multi-task under tight deadlines. Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality; knowledge of policy analysis techniques. Ability to analyze, research, and synthesize large data sets with strong attention to detail and sound proposals and reports. Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic research environment, medical center, or non-profit setting. Minimum of 5 years of experience with large multidisciplinary, multi-component research grants (e.g., CCSG). Minimum of 5 years of prior experience leading or supervising a team in a matrix environment. Preferred: 7 years of higher education experience, ideally within the UC system. Special Conditions
Requires travel to the Orange campus, Irvine campus, and off-site locations for meetings/events. Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and comply with DMV Pull Notice System. Requires regional travel within California multiple times per year and annual attendance at national meetings held in different U.S. locations. Requires evening and/or weekend work as needed for events and CCSG renewal and annual reports to key stakeholders. Qualifications (Legal/Policy Statements)
