Job Overview With significant growth planned in the coming years for DMS, including Kinetyc in Wixom, MI, we are looking for an experienced non-automotive Industrial buyer to help our purchasing team scale effectively. You'll play a role not only in day-to-day purchasing and vendor relationships but also working closely with cross-functional teams to build our Kinetyc purchasing capability. As the scale and scope of our operations continue to grow in complexity, our processes and systems must adapt to support that expansion. At the same time, it's important that the department can continue to focus on sourcing locally and building strong vendor relationships with local businesses while striking the right balance of quality, sustainability, and cost.
Responsibilities
Supplier Relationship Management:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing suppliers, seeking cost-effective solutions, and negotiating contracts for long-term partnerships.
Sourcing and Procurement:
Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for various components and materials, focusing on quality, cost, and delivery performance.
Cost Analysis:
Conduct cost analysis and cost breakdowns to support the development of competitive pricing strategies and cost-saving initiatives.
Identify and Execute Cost-Saving Opportunities:
Proactively identify and implement cost-saving opportunities in the procurement process, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness in sourcing.
Program Support:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including program managers, engineers, and quality control, to ensure the timely and efficient execution of automotive instrument panel programs.
Supply Chain Optimization:
Work to improve supply chain efficiency, identifying opportunities for lead time reduction, inventory management, and risk mitigation.
Quality Assurance:
Monitor supplier quality performance and work with quality assurance teams to address and resolve any quality issues promptly.
Risk Management:
Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring a continuous supply of materials.
Supplier Diversity:
Support diversity and inclusion initiatives by actively seeking and engaging with diverse suppliers.
Preferred Experience
Advanced Degree:
A master's degree in supply chain management, business, or related field is a plus.
Certifications:
Certification in supply chain management or procurement (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is advantageous.
Non-Automotive Industrial Industry Networks:
Existing connections and networks within the non-automotive electronics industry.
ERP Systems:
Proficiency in using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for procurement and inventory management.
Problem-solving:
Strong problem-solving skills to address supply chain challenges effectively.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree:
A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field is required.
Non-Automotive Industrial Industry Knowledge:
A strong understanding of the non-automotive industrial industry. Desired commodity knowledge of metals, welding, machined parts, fabricated assemblies, and packaging materials. Can interpret drawings, specifications, and basic bill of materials (BoMs).
Years of Experience:
5-7+ years of experience required.
Supply Chain Expertise:
Proven experience in supply chain management, procurement, and supplier relationship management within the automotive sector.
Negotiation Skills:
Proven strong negotiation and communication skills to secure favorable terms and conditions with suppliers.
Analytical Skills:
Proficiency in data analysis and cost breakdowns to make informed decisions.
Project Management:
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Quality Focus:
A commitment to ensuring high-quality materials and components for production.
Team Player:
Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and an ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to Work Independently:
Demonstrated capability to work independently and take initiative in identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities in the procurement process.
