About the Role The
MEP Project Manager
is responsible for the oversight of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the lifecycle of commercial construction projects. The role includes planning, scheduling, budgeting, coordinating with design teams, managing subcontractors, and ensuring successful project delivery while maintaining compliance with safety and building codes.
Key Responsibilities Project Planning and Coordination
Lead planning and scheduling for all MEP system installation and integration
Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to define MEP requirements
Develop and manage the MEP project schedule to ensure timely completion
Coordinate with architects, engineers, and construction managers for seamless integration
Oversee procurement and delivery of MEP materials and equipment
Manage subcontractors to ensure efficient, cost‑effective work
Team Leadership and Supervision
Supervise MEP teams, subcontractors, and field staff
Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance to maintain project momentum
Foster a collaborative environment and ensure effective communication among all stakeholders
Mentor engineers, field staff, and subcontractors to develop technical and professional skills
Conduct regular team meetings, resolve conflicts, and maintain safety and quality standards
Budget and Cost Control
Develop, monitor, and manage MEP project budgets
Track labor, material, and equipment costs to ensure efficient resource use
Prepare cost estimates, manage change orders, and communicate financial updates
Quality Control and Compliance
Ensure MEP systems meet project specifications, codes, and industry standards
Conduct inspections and oversee testing and commissioning
Address and resolve technical issues and non‑compliance with standards
Safety Management
Enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe work environment
Conduct safety audits, inspections, and toolbox talks
Ensure all personnel, including subcontractors, follow safety procedures and PPE requirements
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Stakeholder Communication and Reporting
Serve as primary contact for MEP‑related issues with clients, contractors, and stakeholders
Provide regular project updates on progress, challenges, and risks
Participate in project meetings and advise on MEP design and scheduling
Risk Management and Problem‑Solving
Identify risks to MEP system installation and develop mitigation strategies
Resolve technical challenges, scope changes, and design discrepancies
Maintain clear communication on corrective actions and track progress
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
5–10 years of experience managing MEP projects in commercial or industrial construction
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate subcontractors
In‑depth knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and MEP standards (NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA)
Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera)
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
Physical Requirements
Ability to work on construction sites, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs
Comfortable working in all weather conditions, at heights, or in confined spaces as needed
