Position Summary The GME Program Coordinator serves as a core member of the Sheps Center’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) Technical Assistance Centers (TACs), which provide national leadership in expanding the healthcare workforce through support for rural and community-based residency programs. This position manages and coordinates the implementation, evaluation, and reporting of multiple state and federally funded projects that strengthen graduate medical and dental education infrastructure. In coordination with leadership, the GME Program Coordinator ensures that all funded initiatives meet programmatic goals, data reporting requirements, and stakeholder expectations. The GME Program Coordinator integrates program management, evaluation, and dissemination activities – bridging the operational and analytical functions necessary for effective statewide technical assistance. This includes managing project work plans, coordinating partner engagement, analyzing outcomes data, developing reporting products, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. As a program expert, the GME Program Coordinator consults with academic institutions, healthcare partners, and policymakers to advance workforce development initiatives, improve program quality, and expand access to healthcare in underserved areas. The position also contributes to applied research and dissemination activities that reinforce UNC’s national leadership in rural health, workforce policy, and GME development.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working in support of graduate medical education and/or health workforce development.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, analyze program data, and communicate results.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data management and reporting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with grant-funded programs and federal reporting requirements.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., MS Project, Asana, Smartsheet).
Commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in service delivery.
Experience utilizing continuous quality improvement tools and strategies.
TAGME certification
