Required Experience and Education Education

Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field

Experience

2 years of relevant experience to include:

1 year experience with state/federal regulatory requirements (examples include: Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) guidelines; Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), and/or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs); Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements; or local chemical and biohazardous waste disposal requirements)

May consider additional related years of experience in lieu of education

Must meet education and experience certification and training guidelines for equipment and tests used and performed in the particular laboratory, as required under federal regulations

Preferred

Some supervisory experience

Job Duties

Coordinate duties, schedules, project activities, equipment usage, operating time, research studies, billing, and space for a group to ensure efficient operation of a research laboratory

Coordinate availability of technical assistance, appropriate chemicals, and special equipment to ensure timely preparation or completion of research projects

Oversee laboratory and office personnel; maintain personnel records; ensure completion of performance evaluations; recruit and train clerical and technical support using managerial skills per departmental and university guidelines

Ensure personnel and laboratory compliance with regulatory requirements appropriate to the laboratory space

Oversee all research orders and allocate laboratory supplies, materials, and equipment; maintain adequate inventory to ensure efficient operation of projects

Manage Research Assets and information on warranties, service contracts, operating manuals, licenses and permits; oversee maintenance of laboratory equipment to ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards; manage the laboratory Business Continuity Plan

Troubleshoot problems and design training according to government regulations

Serve as laboratory liaison to the Department/Center administration

Performs other duties as assigned
