NYC Department of Social Services . **Note:** You must be permanent in the Benefits Opportunity Specialist (BOS) title for at least one year or in the Associate Benefits Opportunity Specialist (ABOS) title. This is a provisional appointment. When a test becomes available in the ABOS title, you must take and pass the exam to remain in the ABOS title. The Department of Social Services (DSS) includes the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA provides benefits like Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance, while DHS works to prevent and address homelessness in NYC. The Fair Hearing Specialized Evidence Packet Unit (SEPU) prepares evidence packets for fair hearings, including specialized calendars and Rivera packets, for cases involving HRA and other agencies. The unit manages Rivera requests for Cash Assistance, SNAP, IREA, and HASA, ensuring timely preparation and submission of evidence packets. Under supervision, the Associate Job Opportunity Specialist I (AJOSI) will prepare documentation and evidence packets within SEPU. The position reports to the SEPU Supervisor and involves: Reviewing databases like WMS, POS, NYCWAY, and others to locate evidence supporting the agency’s actions. Preparing evidence packets for various fair hearing calendars and requests, ensuring completion within deadlines. Submitting resolution forms to resolve fair hearing issues prior to hearings. Outreach to appellants to clarify issues and support case resolution or defense. **Work Location:** 250 Livingston Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201 **Hours:** 9am – 5pm with flexible scheduling Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, plus three years of full-time experience in social/human services or related client services. Baccalaureate degree plus 18 months of full-time experience as Benefits Opportunity Specialist or similar work. College credits may substitute for experience (9 months per 60 credits). All candidates must have at least 18 months of relevant full-time experience. This position is open to qualified persons with disabilities under the 55-a Program. NYC residency is not required. The salary range is $58,377 – $67,134 annually.
