Traveling Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic - Construction at Black & Veatch. This role involves ensuring construction equipment operates safely and efficiently, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment used in construction. Key Responsibilities
Repair, replace or perform maintenance on equipment using appropriate hand and power tools. Receive equipment, document condition, schedule maintenance, and maintain service records. Operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects. Clean, lubricate and perform routine maintenance; ensure safe fueling and oiling of equipment. Diagnose faults using engine diagnostic equipment and calibration devices. Inspect parts for damage or wear with micrometers and gauges. Adjust and maintain industrial machinery using control devices. Repair, replace or fabricate parts from sheet metal; dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment as needed. Weld or solder broken parts; repair, rewire and troubleshoot electrical systems. Research, order and maintain parts inventory; test equipment after repair for proper performance. Read operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings; fit bearings and adjust equipment. Assist operators with daily inspections and ensure safety policies are followed. Ensure equipment leaving the job site is ready for the next assignment. May act as a lead or supervise others; participate in continuous improvement and safety programs. Engage in safety processes, report hazards, stop-work if necessary, and participate in investigations as needed. Follow lockout/tagout procedures and site-specific training requirements. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
At least 7 years of experience as a Mechanic with strong knowledge of mechanics; at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Working knowledge of industrial construction equipment, machines, tools, and maintenance. Unrestricted driver’s license and clean MVR; must have or obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire. All necessary tools; able to be at least 18 years of age. Pre-employment onboarding requirements may include background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, as applicable by law. Preferred Qualifications
High school graduate with some college experience. Proficient attention to detail, communication, data entry, mathematics, organizing data, problem solving; forklift certified; strong mechanical skills. Certifications
Relevant certifications as required by the role. Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work Environment
Travel may be required; typically a mix of office, warehouse, laydown yard, and construction site. Work in cramped spaces; exposure to extreme temperatures; inclement weather; bright or low lighting; and noisy environments. Work around hazardous equipment and at heights. Physical Demands
Lift up to 50 pounds; stand, kneel, bend, stoop; climb stairs and ladders; work up to 12-hour shifts in varying conditions. Company Details
