About the Job The primary function of the Utility Worker is to perform a variety of kitchen tasks, maintaining kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils while delivering excellence in hospitality and customer service to all.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Set up dish machine to ensure proper dish washing, handling and storage.
Practice proper deliming procedures.
Wash dishes by hand or place them in a dishwashing machine; may wash pots.
Wash worktables, walls, refrigerators and meat blocks.
Sweep, mop, clean and vacuum floors; remove trash to designated areas.
Transfer supplies and equipment within and between storage and work areas.
Clean equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards.
Polish silver; maintain storerooms and walk‑ins neatly.
Follow first‑in, first‑out method for rotating stock and adhere to all HACCP procedures.
Keep all equipment clean and maintained after use; assist with stocking supplies.
Clear dishes and trays; clean and sanitize cafeteria tables.
Collect and dispose of garbage left at tables and garbage containers.
Clean and sanitize kitchen and cafeteria workstations and equipment on schedule.
Sweep and mop cafeteria servery tray return area and main kitchen between meals.
Perform tray line duties according to prescribed diets and patient requests.
Place selected food items on patient trays in accordance with sanitation standards and patient requests.
Ensure patient food meets any special diet.
Assist with preparing food for cafeteria for all assigned meals.
Promptly answer customer staff requests pleasantly and appropriately.
Approach, greet and offer assistance to patients, family members, physicians and others who may need help.
Cover shortages within the department; take initiative to solve problems and recommend improvements of hospital procedures and intra‑ or interdepartmental processes.
Participate in training and development activities and attend hospital sponsored training programs as required.
Meet all mandatory obligations; participate in departmental projects and interdepartmental activities when asked.
Demonstrate a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors and managers both inside and outside the unit.
Comply with all MedStar/Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures; report all accidents and injuries promptly.
Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures; participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments; attend all allergy and food‑borne illness in‑service training.
Minimal Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
1–2 years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
Ability to follow basic written and oral instructions.
Ability to count and perform basic arithmetic.
