Job Summary

Arpahoe County Department of Human Services (ACDHS) is hiring Social Caseworker B – Intake positions within the Child and Adult Protection Services (CAPS) Division. The role provides protective services to children and adults, including foster care, adoption, teen parent programs, and other family‑support services. In this role the Social Caseworker B – Intake will work under direct supervision to conduct complex case management, assess safety, and provide crisis intervention, counseling, resource mobilization, and referrals to families where child abuse or neglect is present or suspected. Responsibilities

Respond to allegations of abuse and/or neglect and conduct assessments to determine child safety. Manage case‑management activities for allegations of severe neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, educational neglect, lack of supervision, and parent‑child relationship challenges. Respond to referrals involving fatal or near‑fatal child abuse/neglect and hazardous harm. Provide immediate and short‑term interventions while evaluating family needs; complete assessments within 60 days. Collaborate with community partners (law enforcement, medical personnel, schools, mental‑health, substance‑use, domestic‑violence, housing, economic‑security providers) to coordinate services and develop case plans. Gather and consolidate background information for court hearings and placement decisions. Attend court hearings and provide testimony. Serve as an information and referral source to colleagues and the public. Enter documentation and manage caseload in the Trails system, ensuring timely record keeping per state and federal regulations. Essential Skills, Abilities & Competencies

Education & Experience

Applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in a human behavior science field and one (1) year of professional casework, case management, or human services experience.

Alternate qualifications include: a Bachelor of Social Work with a completed field placement in a human services agency, or a master’s degree in social work or a related field.

Categorically eligible degrees: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, Child Development. Pre‑Employment Requirements

Successfully pass background check and motor vehicle record (MVR) screening. Possess a valid Colorado Class “R” driver’s license or be able to obtain one within two weeks of employment. Post‑Employment Requirements

Obtain security clearance (fingerprinting and Colorado Bureau of Investigation background check). Be available for on‑call duty during emergencies. Complete or have completed the Colorado Pre‑Service Training Academy or state training, and maintain 40+ hours of annual continuing education for Child Welfare certification. Work – Life Balance & Physical Demands

Standard office environment; approximately 50% sitting, 50% standing/walking. Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. Work requires good visual, auditory, and hand-eye coordination for computer use. Benefits
