Position Overview Indiana University Health Riley Hospital is seeking a compassionate and experienced Social Worker (MSW, LSW) to provide comprehensive psychosocial support, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and case management. This full‑time role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children and families through collaborative, patient‑centered care.

Responsibilities

Interpret and communicate complex patient and family needs.

Model caring practices to other caregivers.

Assess psychosocial risk factors through evaluation of prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.

Provide counseling to patients and families regarding emotional, social, and financial impacts of illness/disability.

Mobilize community and family resources to meet patient needs.

Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral.

Facilitate complex discharge planning and crisis interventions.

Serve as the point person for cases involving child abuse/neglect, elder abuse, domestic violence, and institutional abuse.

Act as liaison with child and adult protective services (APS/DCS) and community agencies.

Provide specialized mental health services, including crisis and addiction assessments, and psychiatric referrals.

Support acute crisis situations using de‑escalation techniques to prevent episodes of violence.

Conduct interviews with victims, perpetrators, and significant others with sensitivity and professionalism.

Provide intervention related to guardianship, foster care, adoption, and end‑of‑life issues.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) required.

Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required.

Certifications: Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent de‑escalation training required within 6 months of hire.

Experience: Relevant experience in hospital, mental health, child and family services, or community‑based settings preferred.

Knowledge & Skills:

Evidence‑based psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention techniques.

Knowledge of disease processes, human behavior, and social needs across the lifespan.

Complex discharge planning skills.

Familiarity with legal mandates for protective services (child and adult).

Ability to adapt services to diverse populations based on geography, culture, and finances.

Strong relationships with hospital staff, law enforcement, community agencies, and families.

Computer literacy and proficiency in electronic medical records.

Additional: May be scheduled for on‑call and holiday shifts.
