The Pre-Trial Services unit operates 24/7. Work schedules may change, and employees may be required to work any shift or day. Selection Process
Final selection includes list placement and may involve a hiring interview. Employment offers are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test, background check, education and experience verification, and demonstration of physical ability if required. Some positions may require preliminary background checks. Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the full journey-level class within the Pre-Trial Services Officer series. Employees work with minimal instruction on new or unusual situations and are familiar with operating procedures and policies. Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from the Pre-Trial Services Supervisor or higher management. Essential Functions
Evaluates defendants charged with misdemeanors, verifies responses, checks criminal databases, confirms identity and aliases, evaluates criminal history, determines release eligibility, sets bail, and processes pending cases. Ensures compliance with mandates related to risk assessment, hearings, bail, and competency reviews. Coordinates competency review processes and communicates release terms. Schedules court dates and prepares reports; recommends release conditions; processes release documentation. Applies least restrictive release conditions; reviews them with defendants and related parties to ensure understanding. Responds courteously to inquiries, assists court personnel, and resolves issues efficiently. Verifies warrants and processes confirmation requests timely. Performs follow-up contacts to ensure compliance with release conditions and notifies judges of non-compliance. Maintains logs, records, and files; verifies documents for accuracy. Communicates with law enforcement and agencies to share and obtain information. Marginal Functions
Coordinates defendant transportation. Participates in policy development. Performs related duties as required. Experience
Two years of responsible experience in criminal justice, counseling, social work, substance abuse counseling, psychology, or a related field. Training
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, counseling, psychology, social sciences, or related field. Equivalent education and experience may be substituted, with 1.5 years of relevant experience equating to one year of education. License or Certificate
Must obtain NCIC/NCJIS certification within 6 months of appointment and maintain proficiency. Special Requirements
The unit operates 24/7; work schedules may vary, including any shift or day. Knowledge of
Criminal justice principles, interviewing techniques, substance abuse signs, human behavior, community resources, record keeping, report writing, laws and regulations. Skills in
Judgment, understanding of criminal justice system, policy enforcement, mental health and substance abuse recognition, effective communication, decision-making, and relationship building. Core Competencies
