Job Title Coordinator of Religious Education
Department/Location Sacred Heart Parish / Nogales, AZ
Primary Function Under the direction of the Pastor, responsible for the management of the Religious Education program for a Parish or School.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform as a lay ecclesial minister in support of the parish’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
Shall abide by Catholic principles in the director’s professional and private life and govern his/her life in strict accordance with Catholic morals.
Assist the Pastor or Principal articulate a vision within the community, assess needs, set priorities, goals, objectives and implement plans of action.
Communicate and cooperate with all parish ministers, staff, resolve conflicts, serve as resource and support.
Plan curriculum, assess needs, incorporate prayer, service and outreach at all levels.
Assist pastor or principal in administering Religious Education programs, coordinate catechists, maintain sacramental records, enforce facilities guidelines.
Recruit and form catechists, adhere to Diocesan guidelines.
Manage religious education staff, screen, employ, assign volunteers per Diocesan policies.
Coordinate activities with Diocesan staff.
Ensure adherence to personnel policy guidelines.
Prepare reports as necessary.
Assist in ensuring adherence to Diocese of Tucson Safe Environment requirements.
Assist in drafting and implementing Standard Operating Procedures for youth activities as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required. Activities: walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling; hearing; carrying; keyboarding.
Basic Qualifications
A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church.
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public.
Self‑starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously; urgency.
Maintain confidentiality.
Collaborate in a team environment; punctual; travel locally; weekend and overtime work may be required.
Proficient in computer technology: word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint.
Professional bearing; clean and neat appearance.
Pass background, criminal history, and credit check.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, education, public administration or related field or equivalent experience.
3‑5 years’ experience in a Catholic religious education environment as educator or catechist.
Level 1 catechetical certification or equivalent education.
Other/Preferred Skills
Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Level 2 catechetical certification or equivalent education preferred.
