Maintenance Worker - Facilities I-III

The District is searching for a qualified applicant for Maintenance Worker Facilities I-III. We will fill the position at the appropriate job series level based on the selected candidate's qualifications.
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Operations, and the direct supervision of the Station Maintenance Supervisor, is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the District's facilities, which includes potable water, recycled water, and wastewater facilities.
Maintenance Worker Facilities I: This is the entry-level classification in the job series. Incumbents work under close supervision as they learn and perform a limited range of tasks. Familiarization with the District's facilities, policies and procedures is required at this level. (Hourly pay ranges from $35.84 - $45.88)
Maintenance Worker Facilities II: This is the skilled-level classification in the job series. Incumbents perform the full range of skilled duties. Assignments may encompass a variety of tasks, and may seldom require detailed instructions. Must exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines and show initiative. (Hourly pay ranges from $40.31 - $51.60)
Maintenance Worker Facilities III: This is the journey-level classification in the job series. Incumbents perform the more complex assignments and specialized tasks in the crew, requiring greater knowledge of crew responsibilities and District programs gained through experience and/or training and education. Incumbents must have the ability to train and lead staff. Assignments are varied and require sound independent judgment and initiative. (Hourly pay ranges from $45.37 - $58.08)

Maintenance Worker Facilities I:
Log station information daily.
Maintain pumps and motors in good operating condition at all times.
Make repairs and any adjustments as needed.
Clean and paint facilities.
Operate a variety of small equipment including generators, pumps, vent fans, and common hand and power tools.
Ability to successfully accomplish standard operating procedures as assigned by Supervisor.
Work varying shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Responds to emergencies during and after work hours consistent with the Incident Command System (ICS), Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS), and National Incident Management Systems (NIMS).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintenance Worker Facilities II:
All of the above functions.
Perform basic troubleshooting, analysis, and repairs to District facilities and equipment.
Rebuild horizontal split case pumps.
Assist in training the Station Maintenance Worker I in the operation and maintenance of the District's facilities.
Maintenance Worker Facilities III:
All of the above functions.
Rebuild horizontal split case and vertical pumps.
Train and mentor Station Maintenance Workers I and II in the operation and maintenance of the District's facilities.
Assist with the maintenance of records and documents of facilities and related equipment throughout the district.

Maintenance Worker Facilities I:
High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and safe driving record.
Must have mechanical aptitude and have the ability to accurately read District sectional maps.
Ability to take direction and follow through on one's own to complete assigned duties.
Possession of California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Distribution Grade D1 Certificate.
Possession of California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collection System Maintenance Grade 1 Certificate or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement.
Certified as a Horizontal Split Case Pump Technician or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement.
Maintenance Worker Facilities II:
Minimum of all the above qualifications.
Ability to initiate work activities on one's own with minimal direction.
Possession of California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Water Distribution Grade D2 Certificate.
Possession of California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collection System Maintenance Grade 1 Certificate.
Certified as a Horizontal Split Case Pump Technician.
Certified as a Vertical Pump Technician or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement.
Maintenance Worker Facilities III:
Minimum of all the above qualifications.
Possession of California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collection System Maintenance Grade 2 Certificate or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement.
Certified as a Horizontal Split Case Pump Technician.
Certified as a Vertical Pump Technician.
Possession of Laser Alignment Certificate or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement.
Possession of Cla-Valve or Singer Valve Certificate or ability to obtain within 18 months of job placement.
Must be able to fill in for Senior Maintenance Worker in his absence.
Position requires the ability to work in a field maintenance environment with the ability to carry, push, pull, reach, and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 80 pounds. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb during field maintenance and repair work. Must have hearing, vision, and eye-hand coordination sufficient to operate equipment and maintain good awareness during maintenance and repair jobs. Must be able to work in an environment that could produce exposure to dust, dirt, and chemicals such as, but not limited to, chlorine, chloramines, calcium hypochlorite, odium thiosulfate, ammonia, and significant temperature changes.
