Job Description And Duties

Under the Supervision of the Maintenance Manager I, the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent acts as the District Maintenance Hazardous Material (Hazmat) Coordinator. The Hazardous Material Manager shall work under all the HazMat guidelines as specified in the Maintenance Manual and the special requirements stated below.

The Hazardous Material Manager shall possess a valid California Driver’s License and appropriate HazMat certificates issued by the "Governor’s Office of Emergency Services."

Eligibility for hire is determined by your score on the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

This position is located at 1604 South B Street, Stockton, Ca 95206, San Joaquin County

The Hazardous Material Manager will be exposed to long periods of time in front of computers under various lighting conditions. Will wear and use all required personal safety equipment. Fieldwork is required where exposure to high-speed traffic will occur. Shall follow all policies, procedures and safe working practices. Must be able to respond to accident scenes where Hazmat spill may occur. These incidents may occur anytime, during the day or night and on weekends or holidays and in any type of weather.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
