Traveling Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic - Construction at Black & Veatch. This is a field-based role supporting BV Construction with on-site, hands-on work. We are employee-owned and focus on safety, quality, and the final product. Location: South Carolina area; travel may be required. Responsibilities

Assure that all construction equipment works efficiently and safely. Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment (e.g., cranes, bulldozers, forklifts, graders, conveyors). Receive equipment, document condition, schedule maintenance, and keep service records. Operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects; perform routine maintenance including lubrication and fueling; ensure equipment is safe and ready for use. Diagnose faults using engine diagnostic equipment and calibrate devices; examine parts for damage or wear; adjust and maintain industrial machinery. Repair or replace damaged parts; fabricate needed parts from sheet metal; dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment as required. Weld or solder broken parts; repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems. Research, order, and maintain parts inventory; test equipment after repair to ensure proper performance per manufacturers\' specifications. Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings; assist operators with daily inspections and safety compliance. Ensure equipment leaving the job site is ready for the next assignment. May act as a lead or supervise other professionals; may provide supervision, training, and performance management as needed. Identify and pursue continuous improvement opportunities; participate in safety processes to achieve zero injuries; follow stop-work authority if hazards are present. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

At least 7 years of experience as a Mechanic with strong knowledge of mechanics; 2+ years experience in a supervisory or managerial role. Working knowledge of industrial construction equipment and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Unrestricted driver's license with clean MVR; must have or obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire. All necessary tools; must be at least 18 years old. Completion of pre-employment onboarding requirements as applicable (e.g., background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records). Preferred Qualifications

High school graduate with some college experience. Proficient attention to detail; strong communication (written and oral); ability to enter and organize data; proficient mathematics; forklift certified; mechanical skills. Skills

Travel may be required. Typical environment includes office, warehouse, laydown yard, and construction project sites. Requires working in cramped spaces, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, bright or low lighting, exposure to loud noises, hazardous equipment, and high places. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand, kneel, bend, stoop; climb and balance on structures; fine motor control and repetitive movements. Work up to 12-hour shifts in varying outdoor conditions.
