Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of a Supervising Transportation Engineer in the Division of Program and Project Management the Senior Transportation Engineer serves as Project Manager. The incumbent ensures the delivery of all assigned projects within scope, cost, schedule, and resources. The Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for managing and facilitating the development and engineering administration of the project from inception through completion of the construction contract. The Senior Transportation Engineer will provide transportation engineering support to the Supervising Regional Project Manager for projects that are in the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), State Highway Operational and Protection Program (SHOPP), storm damage, seismic projects, minors, and other Capital Outlay funded projects. The incumbent will function as a liaison for any Transportation Engineering issues on behalf of Division of Program/ Project Management. Regular and punctual attendance is required. As workloads shift and change, duties may be adjusted to perform other Senior Transportation Engineer (Specialist) tasks within the Division. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and controls transportation Projects utilizing appropriate tools and equipment for scope, schedule, and cost; managing both capital and support costs; and monitoring actual against planned costs. Position located at 111 Grand Avenue, Oakland, Alameda County. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions.
