Our client is a media company looking for a Manager of Payroll Tax and Compliance to join their Los Angeles, CA office. Base pay range

$80,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr Responsibilities

Oversee internal payroll tax operations and third‑party vendors to ensure accurate filing and remittance of all employment taxes and garnishments. Maintain SOX controls, internal policies, and compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations across multiple legal entities. Analyze complex payroll tax issues and develop effective solutions for employee mobility, reciprocal taxation, stock reporting, and fringe benefits. Research new payroll tax laws and regulations, document requirements, test system changes, and advise management on compliance strategies. Investigate and resolve tax notices while proactively implementing process adjustments to prevent recurrence. Collaborate with HR and Payroll Operations to correctly tax expatriate and in‑patriate employees and ensure accurate reporting. Plan and execute year‑end tax processing and reconciliation, including W‑2 balancing and agency form submissions. Develop and maintain SOPs, training materials, and team education to uphold compliance and operational excellence. Implement metrics and process improvement initiatives to optimize accuracy, efficiency, and productivity across payroll tax functions. Lead and mentor team members through continuous coaching, professional development, and performance management. Requirements

7+ years of relevant work experience. 7+ years leading and coaching a team of 5+ payroll professionals. In-depth knowledge of federal, multi‑state, and local wage and hour, garnishment, and tax regulations. Strong knowledge of tax expats, inpats, and fringe benefits. Ability to build strong partnerships with leadership and mentor teams. Exceptional problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to handle confidential information and issues effectively. CPP designation is a plus. Proficient in MS Office. Experience with Workday and ADP Smart Compliance is a plus.
