Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and directs landfill operations.
Manages landfill staff and solid waste transport.
Monitors landfill materials for regulatory compliance and coordinates recycling bin pickups and material pickup.
Ensures proper landfill construction and maintenance.
Operates equipment to compact refuse and grade landfill structures and access roads.
Manages landfill systems to control leachate, methane, and environmental emissions.
Maintains and calibrates monitoring equipment and ensures upkeep of all facilities and equipment.
Manages purchases and inventory, ensuring budget compliance and timely reordering of parts and supplies.
Ensures workplace safety through site monitoring, staff training, and enforcement of safety procedures.
Maintains records and reports to ensure compliance with state solid waste regulations.
Manages supplier and contractor contracts; coordinates staff and equipment for hauling and off‑site projects.
Operates various heavy equipment for landfill operations.
Handles public inquiries and complaints, provides assistance, and supports scale house operations.
Research waste management laws to ensure landfill compliance.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Possession of or ability to secure within 1 year appropriate SWANA certifications.
Typical Qualifications Graduation from high school with considerable experience in environmental technologies, hazardous waste, landfill management and operations; including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supplemental Information Criminal records check, drug screen, and references will be required for the successful candidate. All applications will be considered but not necessarily interviewed.
